What To Do When Someone Plagiarizes Your Site?
You will feel helpless if someone plagiarizes your site - but be sure to take swift action. If this has happened to you in the past, we feel your pain. Today our site http://www.firelead.com was copied by ‘your cpa network dot com’. Though we are very flattered that we were copied, we do not take to plagiarism lightly. See screen-shot for evidence of the violation - notice they did not even change the title of the site or the content - but did add their own logo.
As you can see they didn’t even bother changing our logo “flame” or some of the old text that was on the website a few weeks ago. This screen-shot is from a saved copy of the site. Currently they are still coming up in Google searches for our domain as of today. We have notified Google at but have not heard back at all yet. We are hoping this does not steal any business from us.
We looked up their website whois info on DNSstuff.com and sent them a simple email.
Here is the email we sent the offenders:
Cease and desist
Your website is in violation of Trademark Infringement and Copyright Infringement for copying the website http://www.firelead.com
Please take down all code and stop using our trademarked images and code or further action will be taken.
We did not hear back from them. So we notified Google of the DCMA violation because it was coming up in searches for our domain. Google has not yet responded. We also notified Yahoo of the DCMA violation and they have also not responded.
Fortunately, the offening site changed their text and took down our logo after our email, but we are well prepared to fight any future violation in court if needed.
So what can you do if this happens to you? Well we recommend you take the same action we did. Our page is protected by Copyscape. We have our logo registered in the US trademarks office and our website copyright is in place. We recommend that you do the same for your content on your own sites to prevent something like this from happening - or to be prepared if it does happen.
We have decided we will keep this blog post up until we hear an official apology from “your cpa network”- but we have not heard from them. If/when we receive an apology we will address it at that time.
