DMOZ Submissions And The Open Directory Project

Dmoz.org is a community of editors who collectively hand-pick and verify websites to place into a “Open Directory”. The directory is edited by humans – reducing the amount of spam submissions received. Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it will take a long time for an editor to approve the submission, but it is worth it to submit.

There are a number of different search engines that use the websites listed in the Open Directory in their own searches because of the quality. They rely heavily on good quality website design and content.  Therefore, to get your website listed in the Open Directory will help you ranking in searches for your site in Google and others – and this can help for SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It’s worth it to submit your site to the directory for SEO purposes alone.

Webmasters: It is easy to submit your site to the Open Directory: just search for the topic that best matches up with your site, and choose “suggest URL” at the top. Recently they were having technical problems and could not accept submissions – but that has now changed.

Currently the “become and editor” area of the site is also having technical difficulties, but hopefully this changes soon so that more people can edit and contribute. Over the years we have seen the site grow immensely, and overall it is a great site for searching for good quality websites on your desired topic.
